BATTERY STORAGE IN TARANAKI

Battery Storage
Across Taranaki

Taranaki wraps a ring plain around a single mountain, and that shapes the light. The coast and the open farmland out from it are among the sunnier parts of the North Island, while the mountain makes its own weather and the hill country to the east sits cloudier. It is worth knowing which side of that line your roof is on.

Storage suits Taranaki for two reasons: the evening peak sits well after generation has dropped off, and the weather off the Tasman takes lines down often enough that backup is worth having. A battery covers both.

WHY ADD A BATTERY IN TARANAKI?

  • One team covers the whole region, north to south, so the people who assess your roof are the same ones who come back for service or a warranty call.
  • Roofs here run from city sections and coastal subdivisions to lifestyle blocks and dairy farms, which is why array size and layout get decided on site, not from a satellite photo.
  • Powerco runs the lines network across Taranaki, and we handle the connection and export approval for you, including the sites where the local transformer limits what you can send back.
  • Workshops, sheds and pumps pull power through the day here, and an Energizer or Sigenergy battery carries what the roof makes into the evening peak.
  • Out on the farm roads an outage can run for hours, so backup is less a convenience here than it is in town.

Every EFS Solar installation is carried out by licensed electrical workers, uses Tier 1 panels and inverters, and is backed by warranties of up to 30 years, with $0 upfront options available. We're proudly New Zealand-owned.

Battery Storage in Taranaki, Common Questions

What does a home battery actually do?

It stores your surplus daytime solar generation so you can use it in the evening instead of exporting it. You swap a low buy-back price for a high avoided-purchase price on every stored kilowatt-hour, and with backup capability, a battery keeps your essentials running through an outage.

What size battery do I need?

Common home batteries store roughly 10–16kWh, which carries a typical household’s evening and overnight use. The right size depends on your solar generation and what you want backed up. We size storage from your actual usage data.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?

Usually, yes. We install batteries with new systems and retrofit them to existing ones. We confirm compatibility with your inverter during the assessment and recommend the right configuration.

Does a battery let me install more panels?

Yes. On single-phase power a 10kW inverter is normally capped at 13.3kW of panels (33% oversizing), but with a battery the allowance grows to as much as 200%, up to around 20kW, because the surplus generation has somewhere useful to go.

What batteries do you install?

We install premium battery systems from Energizer and Sigenergy, matched to your inverter and backed by 10-year warranties, with all electrical work carried out by licensed electrical workers.
