Solar Batteries in New Zealand, Common Questions
What does a home battery actually do?
It stores your surplus daytime solar generation so you can use it in the evening instead of exporting it. You swap a low buy-back price for a high avoided-purchase price on every stored kilowatt-hour, and with backup capability, a battery keeps your essentials running through an outage.
What size battery do I need?
Common home batteries store roughly 10–16kWh, which carries a typical household’s evening and overnight use. The right size depends on your solar generation and what you want backed up. We size storage from your actual usage data.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?
Usually, yes. We install batteries with new systems and retrofit them to existing ones. We confirm compatibility with your inverter during the assessment and recommend the right configuration.
Does a battery let me install more panels?
Yes. On single-phase power a 10kW inverter is normally capped at 13.3kW of panels (33% oversizing), but with a battery the allowance grows to as much as 200%, up to around 20kW, because the surplus generation has somewhere useful to go.
What batteries do you install?
We install premium battery systems from Energizer and Sigenergy, matched to your inverter and backed by 10-year warranties, with all electrical work carried out by licensed electrical workers.
