SOLAR IN COROMANDEL

Solar Made Simple
for Waikato

Coromandel Town sits on the sheltered western side of the peninsula, a small harbourside town of baches, cottages and lifestyle blocks. It is a long way down the lines from anywhere, which is exactly why generating your own power makes sense here.

EFS Solar designs, installs and supports solar and battery systems for homes in Coromandel and the surrounding bays. Every system starts with an on-site assessment of your roof, shading and how the household actually uses power.

WHY GO SOLAR IN COROMANDEL?

  • Long rural lines run the length of the peninsula, so storm outages are a fact of life and battery backup earns its place here more than it does in town.
  • Holiday homes that sit empty midweek export most of what they generate, so sizing the system to how the house is actually used matters more than going as big as the roof allows.
  • A sheltered, sunny coastal aspect suits solar, and the mix of older cottages and newer builds is well suited to a design done roof by roof.

Every EFS Solar installation is carried out by licensed electrical workers, uses Tier 1 panels and inverters, and is backed by warranties of up to 30 years, with $0 upfront options available. We're proudly New Zealand-owned and install right across the North Island.

Residential Solar in Coromandel, Common Questions

How much does a residential solar system cost in New Zealand?

It depends on your roof, your power use and whether you add a battery, so we quote every system individually after a free on-site assessment rather than advertising a one-size-fits-all price. $0 upfront payment options are available, and several major NZ banks offer low- or zero-interest green loan top-ups for solar.

How much power will solar generate at my place?

As a rule of thumb, a well-sited system in New Zealand generates around 3.9kWh per day for each kilowatt of panels, averaged across the year, so a 6.6kW system produces roughly 26kWh per day. Your roof orientation, tilt, shading and local climate all move that number, which is why we design from an on-site assessment.

Who installs the system?

All electrical work is carried out and certified by licensed electrical workers registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB). We use Tier 1 panels and reputable inverters, backed by warranties of up to 30 years on panel performance.

What happens to the power I don’t use?

Surplus generation is exported to the grid and your electricity retailer pays you a buy-back rate for it. Rates vary between retailers, so it pays to compare plans. We can point you at the options that suit solar households when we design your system.

How big can I go on single-phase power?

Without a battery, the practical maximum on standard single-phase power is 13.3kW of panels, a 10kW inverter oversized by the allowable 33%. Add a battery and the allowance grows to as much as 200%, or up to around 20kW of panels.
